THE HEART OF SEEING – A Fundraiser for Hui Ho’olana

An 8-day Photographic and the Arts Gathering at the Hui

APRIL 6-14, 2024 ~ Molokai, Hawaii

Seeing simply, creatively expressing our inner vision,
reconnecting with our environment, creative arts, including our photography and ourselves

Rikki Cooke, Jonathan Kingston, Ed Sancious and special guest – Dewitt Jones

Venture deeper into the art of photography and return to old Hawaii with photographers Rikki Cooke, Jonathan Kingston, Ed Sancious and special guest Dewitt Jones. We will explore the creative process through group dialogues, small classes, one on one experiences and excursions into the incredible beauty of Molokai. The purpose of this workshop is to focus on seeing as we dive deep into the creative process – not only in our photography but also in our lives. How can we be most present in our lives and with the world around us?

This is a collective collaboration as together we create a new chapter in the Hui’s story – a story that reflects, among other things, the Spirit of the newly formed Huiho Sangha. As we continue to move in this direction, the ohana (family) has realized the importance of coming together for community, reflection, and service to the world. The workshop atmosphere will be one with an inherent sense of awe and gratitude, joy in the place and celebration of the community within the Hui. Our energy will be focused on spirituality as each participant understands and expresses it.

As we create this on-going community, we aspire to discover a deeper level in our photography and other artistic mediums. We acknowledge that we are ‘a network of friends who have spent time over the years at the Hui, who share an aspiration for awakening to the most profound truth of who and what we are, seeking to serve the world generously and wholeheartedly’.

In this new, more intentional format, how would you answer the questions: “Where are you with your creative process? What excites you? Where are you struggling? What are you hoping to discover in this workshop? What do you want to deepen or learn?”
With changes being implemented in the direction of the Hui organization, this workshop will have changes in activities that reflect the new Spirit of the Hui. This will unfold as we are together. As in the past, we will have an overview of Lightroom, its software updates and several iPhone apps to help us produce our best images. Pre-workshop information will be sent out to cover much of this material. We want you to be prepared to jump right into the week’s adventures and spend our time on deeper work in our creative process(es).

Although we will continue to have photo excursions and the exploration of Molokai, we will also have opportunities to explore in smaller groups. There will be additional time for personal projects, free time, deeper conversations, meditation, and more…

Our Hui ohana are also invited to bring their personal talents to the workshop in the form of writing, meditation, spiritual knowledge/guidance, etc. Would you be willing to share with the group your talent in a brief presentation? Do you have a project you are working on, that you would like to share and obtain feedback on?

The seminar will take place at Hui Ho’olana, a beautiful 70-acre educational center and living sanctuary on the island of Molokai. Formerly part of the Cooke Ranch, the lodge sits on a ridge at 1300 feet offering wonderful panoramic views of Molokai, Lanai, Oahu and the Pacific Ocean.

Fresh, abundant meals are prepared daily by the lodge’s gourmet chefs. Much of the food is grown right on the property. Native tropical forest landscaping and a large swimming pool add to the Hui’s peaceful, nature-based experience. Accommodations are shared with 2 to 3 participants to a room or cabin.
