Ten days of in-depth painting with a small community in the pristine setting of Hui Ho'olana provides the opportunity to make a lasting investment in yourself and your life. This program is for continuing participants who want to deepen the personal inquiry begun in prior workshops.

The foundation of this intensive is personal attention-in the painting process, in the nurturing environment, in small group interactions and in private meetings with Stewart. This is Stewart's longest and most personalized group program. It has proven to be a powerful catalyst for change by all who've experienced it.

Prerequisite: One Painting Experience workshop with Stewart.

For over two decades, Stewart Cubley has inspired thousands of people to discover their essential nature using painting as a tool for self-discovery. In 1976 he co-founded The Painting Experience Studio in San Francisco, an organization devoted to providing direct experiences of the creative source through expressive painting. For the past twenty years Stewart has conducted seminars at learning based organizations around the world, including Esalen Institute, Omega Institute, Hollyhock, and this will be his seventh year at Hui Ho'olana. He is co-author of the book Life, Paint and Passion: Reclaiming the Magic of Spontaneous Expression, Tarcher/Putnam 1996.

Website: eddiesoloway.com

This new workshop with Eddie Soloway recognizes that there are many ways to perceive the world. Perception can move beyond the visual and into conceptual and emotional realms. It also connects with the tools you use and how you might push the tools in new directions, use them in ways you never thought of. Consider a flower. One artist creates an abstract celebration of color and light borrowed from the flower. Another, captivated by mood, changes exposure dramatically to better express a feeling. The possibilities are endless, yet sometimes you get stuck with the same photograph you have always taken.

This workshop is an opportunity to awaken dormant portions of ourselves and to access the infinite interpretations of the world around us. Eddie takes participants on a fascinating journey past a surface view and into a multitude of solid, creative ideas for self-expression. Daily presentations and activities that reveal and explain ideas are combined with ample personal time to discover, contemplate, and create. Who Should Attend: This workshop is open to all photographers and artists wishing to push their seeing in new directions.

Eddie Soloway's eye has developed during a lifetime of exploring the earth's wild places. Former positions in educational workshop design, wilderness program development, and custom fine photographic printing have further honed his expertise. In 1998 Eddie was the first recipient of the Excellence in Photographic Teaching Award presented by the Santa Fe Center for Photography. Today he divides his time between making fine-art prints, teaching, speaking on creativity and the photographic life, and furthering photographic publishing projects. His first book, One Thousand Moons, was published in the summer of 2004. An impassioned teacher, Eddie brings experiences in both nature and photography to his workshop.
